[RÉCAP’ JOUR 3 – SAMEDI 11 MARS] 

LES NANTAIS SONT CHAMPIONS DE FRANCE DE VOILE UNIVERSITAIRE !

C’était le dernier jour de compétition au Trophée de l’Île Pelée. Près de 150 étudiants venus de toute la France, d’Allemagne et d’Angleterre se sont affrontés sur le plan d’eau Cherbourgeois. Ce samedi, les sportifs ont pu naviguer dans de très bonnes conditions météo et au sec cette fois-ci. Ce sont exactement 12 flight, soit 36 manches qui ont été courues sur l’ensemble du championnat. Côté performance, les équipages nantais ont confirmé une domination globale puisqu’ils ont tous occupé le top 10 sur toute la course. En particulier l’équipage d’IMT Atlantique Nantes qui n’a rien lâché jusqu’au dernier bord, leur assurant ainsi la place de vainqueur. Félicitation à eux, ils sont sacrés champions d’Europe et champions de France universitaire de voile 2023. La bataille fut intense puisque rien n’était encore joué jusqu’à la dernière manche. Derrière eux, c’est l’équipage 100% cherbourgeois Unicaen 1 qui parvient à se hisser sur la deuxième marche du podium, grâce à une très bonne tactique et de belles exécutions. Les bretons de l’UBS Lorient 1 tirent aussi leur épingle du jeu et se placent  en troisième position. Bravo aux 30 équipages présents pour leur participation, leurs belles performances, nous offrant un très beau spectacle dans la rade, comme chaque année. Le rendez-vous est déjà pris en 2024 pour cet événement étudiant incontournable !

Ils ont dit :

« Aujourd’hui on gagne le Trophée de l’île Pelée, on a eu des super conditions pendant les trois jours. Nous c’est la deuxième fois qu’on vient faire le TIP, et il y a toujours une organisation au top, des conditions au top, des bénévoles au top, des gens sympas, on passe toujours un super moment à venir ici. On navigue ensemble depuis notre arrivée à IMT atlantique et l’année dernière on a fait troisième donc on avait envie de chercher un peu mieux cette année et on a bien travaillé, on a gagné les manches qu’il fallait et au final ça se joue un pas-grand-chose, à un seul point mais on est content qu’il se joue en notre faveur ». « Ça s’est super bien passé, après on a fait quelques erreurs qui nous pénalisent un peu. Par exemple à la fin d’une ligne, on a empanné parce qu’on avait plus de pression, plus rien et le vent a pris 30 degrés là où il ne fallait pas. L’autre bateau qui lui n’a pas empanné à pu passer la ligne sans problème alors que nous on a fait double empannage et on a perdu la place. C’était notre premier championnat et notre troisième nav‘ ensemble en équipage complet, on est content quand même » Unicaen 2

IMT ATLANTIQUE NANTES ARE FRENCH CHAMPIONS IN UNIVERSITY SAILING!

It was the last day of competition at the Pelee Island Trophy. Nearly 150 students from all over France, Germany and England competed on the Cherbourg waterfront. This Saturday, the athletes were able to sail in very good weather conditions and in the dry this time. Exactly 12 flights, or 36 legs were sailed over the whole championship. In terms of performance, the Nantes crews confirmed their overall domination as they all finished in the top 10 throughout the race. In particular, the IMT Atlantique Nantes crew did not give up until the last leg, thus ensuring them the winning place. Congratulations to them, they are crowned European champions and French university sailing champions 2023. The battle was intense as nothing was decided until the last leg. Behind them, it is the 100% Cherbourg-based crew Unicaen 1 that managed to take the second step of the podium, thanks to very good tactics and beautiful executions. The Breton team of UBS Lorient 1 also did well and came third. Congratulations to the 30 crews present for their participation, their great performances, offering us a very nice show in the harbour, as every year. The appointment is already made in 2024 for this unmissable student event!

« Today we won the Pelee Island Trophy, we had great conditions during the three days. It’s our second time doing the TIP, and the organisation is always top notch, the conditions are top notch, the volunteers are top notch, the people are nice, we always have a great time coming here. We’ve been sailing together since we arrived at IMT Atlantique and last year we came third, so we wanted to try and do a bit better this year and we worked hard, we won the races we needed to and in the end it came down to not much, just one point, but we’re happy that it was in our favour. « It went really well, but afterwards we made a few mistakes which penalised us a bit. For example, at the end of a line, we gybed because we had no more pressure, nothing left and the wind took 30 degrees where it shouldn’t have. The other boat that didn’t gybe was able to cross the line without any problem, whereas we gybed twice and lost our place. It was our first championship and our third boat together with a full crew, so we’re happy anyway » Unicaen 2
